She is in college 21 years old and has been diagnosed with anxiety disorder but i beleive there is depression. she is getting by but sleeps alot , has nervousness with the leg going a mile a minute, withdrawn from her friends, cant make decisions, and doesnt feel worthy. Takes 10mg of lexapro . Is it worth trying a different medication or do we have to accept the way she is. I feel like part of her has died.

Is she also undergoing therapy which is a vital part of treatment?  Also is the dispensing doctor re-evaluating her every 3-4 months to see if her medications need an adjustment?  It sounds like both those things need to take place.

Hi Jolene,

There are many other medications available for the treatment of both anxiety and depression. If your daughter feels that the medication isn't working for her, she should talk to her doctor. Perhaps a dose adjustment or a change in therapy is warranted.

Best of luck,

Casey

For me changing the dose to 20mg once a day, made all the difference in the world!!  Its like I just wasn't getting enough to do the job.  It is easy to say just get off the meds, but sometimes that is not the answer.
