Q: What's the best new drug for anxiety that doesn't have bad side effects?

I've trieed the SSRI'S and didn't do well on any of them. Anxiety was worse going on and coming off. Lots of side effects and feeling werid. Been on Klonopin for past three years but memory seems worse and mind goes blank a lot in the middle of a thought. Don't know if thats the Klonopin or just anxiety. Looking for something better.

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, it would be impossible to tell you which anxiety medication would work best for you. There are many different medications available and different people can react differently to the medications. Where one person may do well on one medication, another person may feel the same medication is not effective at all.

Healthsquare lists all of the medications prescribed for anxiety and you are able to find out about each medication.

Really wanted some ideas of good anxiety meds besides the stanardard SSRI'S. Have tried Bupar, Efflexor, Lyrica, and a few others. I do not want to go through a bunch more of Meds trying to weed out the bad ones and expericing their side effects, that only increases my anxiety. Just like to have a few suggestions of what seems to be working for most of the people with GAD. Really with all the drugs and knowledge its seems there no real answer.

Hello Ksamiams,

I have been living w/ anxiety,GAD, Panic attacks adn PTSD. for many yrs.  For me xanax has worked quite well for me w/ anxiety.  As for anti depressants not all work the same for everyone .Sometimes it takes trial and error before you find one that works for you.  Have you or are you going to therapy??  For me it helps.

I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me if you need to talk..

All the best

Good to hear you are some better. I've had panic and anxiety attacks since I was seventeen, I'm now fifty-two. SSRI'S seem to make me worse before I get better abd I can't take their side effects over a long period and coming off them all is a brain zapping experince. If Xanx is not stopping the panic attacks cold KLONOPIN will. Ask your doctor. It has worked great for panic for me for 5 years. Had very few panic attacks and I use to have some many a day or night I'd wind up in the ER. KLONOPIN will stop them. However my forgetting words or names is bothering me and I don't know if it is the anxiety or the KLONOPIN, that is the reason I'm thinking about switching to another med. Other then that KLONOPIN has been a lifesaver when it comes to attacks.
