Q: my mother occasionally gets ativan (gel form) for agitation. she has alzheimer's

my mother occasionally gets ativan (gel form) for agitation. she has alzheimer's and 24 hour care at home. a half dose .5 cc is sometimes followed by another half dose after 30 minutes if the first doesn't seem to work. then, though, mother has sleep apnea and lethargy. is her liver not clearing the drug as it should? should she be started with .25 and then an additional .25 after 30 min? maybe ativan is not the drug for her physiology.

It would be impossible for me to answer your question. I am not a health professional and would not be able to provide advise on medication and medical issues.

It would seem this would be a question that would best be discussed with your mother's physician.
