I am having PTSD symptoms from a traumatic experience that involved my parnter. I need to get past this. Everytime I look at her, the physical & mental feelings of the experience comes back. My anxiety goes through the roof and in turn, becomes a full blown panic attack (I have a severe panic disorder).I have lost trust. How can I get past this? Thank you.

Dear Jaded21,

Was wondering if you dream. Not about the trauma, but in general. The dreams do  not even have to significant, but just to know if you are dreaming. Depending on the type of trauma, physical or mental or emotional, your brain requires rest and REM sleep. The synapses in the brain shoot "electricity" between them, helping to heal itself. If you aren't getting the amount of rest to do this it's one problem. Another problem when you have PTSD is that the sufferer sometimes doesn't pay attention to their personal health. Try to make sure you are hydrated and possibly increase your electrolytes (pedilyte is excellent). Drinking alcohol and other drugs (especially pot) will eliminate your REM. If you find yourself unable to sleep, try Grandma's chamomile tea. Now with that being said, please make sure you are not on some type of medication or have another underlying condition that would not be good with added electrolytes and always check with your physician before changing any type of treatment already laid out by them. If you are unable to attain the REM sleep you need, check out your area for Dr's who can treat you with sound therapy.

Good Luck

Vicki

PTSD can be treated. A doctor or mental health professional who has experience in treating people with PTSD can help you. Treatment may include "talk" therapy, medication, or both.

Treatment might take 6 to 12 weeks. For some people, it takes longer. Treatment is not the same for everyone. What works for you might not work for someone else.

Drinking alcohol or using other drugs will not help PTSD go away and may even make it worse.
