Q: What medicines for panic disorder and hypertension will work together without putting me to sleep?

I have tried several different medicines to treat my anxiety/panic disorder together with hypertension.  Xanax works the best for the anxiety/panic.  Diovan HCT and Bystolic both work well by themselves for hypertension.  But, together with Xanax, the hypertension meds make me sleep all day.  Is it possible to have meds for each of these disorders work together that won't make me a zombie?

Hi Absolutegran49,

It's tough when we are dealing with more than one condition at a time. While online sites are great for getting the information you need to ask all the right questions, it can not take the place of the care and expertise of your doctor.

I see that drowsiness is listed as the first common side effect of Xanax. You can read about Xanax here in the drugs database. But drowsiness is listed as a secondary side effect of the Diovan HTC (A combination medication containing candesartan and the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide) You can read more about Diovan HTC here.

Your doctor has prescribed these medications for you because he/she feels this is the best therapy for your HBP and Anxiety. You should talk to your doctor about alternatives that might not leave you so sleepy.

Good luck and stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing!
