Q: Can stress cause a seizure in a otherwise healthy person?

A friend passed out in her car and was found alongside the expressway slumped over the consoul with some slight foam on her mouth. It was difficult to wake her.She was tested for seizures and there was a slight reading to that effect. She had to wear something to check for seizure activity but her doctor said everthing came back normal. She has had a lot of stress at home and on her job. This episode came after an especially stressful time at work. Can this have been caused by the stress and if so how can she avoid this happening in the future?

Hi Sunny T

Your very helpful description does not sound anything like the result of anxiety. Stress is sometimes thought to precipitate seizures in those who are prone. It could of course be epilepsy but seizures can occur for a variety of reasons. By the sounds of things she needs a proper neurological evaluation. Meanwhile, for her safety and that of others, I feel she should be discouraged from driving until the cause of the problem is known.
