Q: Social anxiety go away

My social anxiey affects me greatly at work when people walk by me I get this sudden boom in my heart, like its about to start beating fast. It's very nerve wrecking for people to stand over me while im typing and if they do, it causes my heart to beat fast, hands to get sweaty and my hands get so shaky that I can hardly type.My supervisor had to help with this new system and I was shaky whileIi was typing he didn't say anything afterwards, but Im sure he noticed. Now this started recently, I've been at this job for a while my anxiety has increased. also sometime I get nervous when entering my credit card info at the grocery line, it didnt help that the customer behinde me was staring completly at me while I was putting the info. I dont feel I have control of my body. I really believe this is a mind, if I someone how don't think about my anixety for a whole day or don't notice someone passing me at work, then I won't get nervous.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

It can be very difficult to like with the symptoms of social anxiety disorder every day. You don't mention whether you are currently receiving treatment, but, if not, that would be the place to start. Besides medications, cognitive behavioral therapy has been found to be effective in helping those with SAD.

Hi Gretna

I get nervous over these things too.  It seems there is a theme to your anxiety and that is...working with some sort of machine or tech device and having someone watching you.  Have you had a bad experience with this before?  Can you remember a time when you were criticized or judged for a similar incident?  I find that I have great trouble in line...putting my credit card in the box....and there is a huge line behind me.  Inevitably I always put it in wrong and I had a really bad check out lady who was unkind about my mess ups and now I am nervous each time I am in line.  I have Multiple Sclerosis so sometimes I get befuddled and shakey and...this has made me quite nervous about lines in stores.  One thing that helps is to have everything ready before I get into line.  And also to just focus on the task at hand and blank out the other people. They will just have to be patient!

Let us know more about your situation...I do understand!
