My daughter has always gotten sick and caught every thing under the sun so easily. I have always taken her to the doctors. She has always been seen if she missed time from school. Not just for little things but serious infections and very high fevers and flus and illnesses that made it impossible to go to school.
However, her school called her doctor's office and tried to threaten them because she has missed so much time this year. They wanted the doctor to approve her for homeschooling but the doctor said, no, it wasn't necessary. They kept calling back although my daughter had medical excuses. Now, her doctor of 12 years dropped her.
She has a new doctor and couldn't be seen until a few days, for a bladder infection or uniary tract infection, and they are trying to mark these couple of absences unexcused, so she will fail the semester. I want to know what my daughter's rights are.
The school has alrewady said, that they would call and notify her new doctor about her absences, not caring if they drop her too. They are trying to make it impossible for my daughter to get medical treatment when she is ill and in need.
They even pull her out of class, when she is at school (without my consent or knowledge) and threaten her with her grades and tell her she needs to go to school. When my 15 year old tells them that she was sick and went to the doctor's they told her it doesn't matter.
My daughter had a panic attack today, because someone from her high school pulled her out of class and told her she was going to fail for the semester because she was home, with a bladder infection.
What are my daughter's rights? If her student handbook states that medical excuses are automatically excused, then why are they trying to make it so hard for her? She's not skipping school or some place else. She has always been home with me and gone to the doctors.
All of this harassment from the school has made my daughter get panic attacks and she has asthma, too. Therefore, this triggers her asthma and she wants to quit school because of this. She is an honor roll student.
