Q: Has anyone else experienced memory loss b/c of using Xanax or other side effects?

I have been taking this for about a year due to anxiety that I just could not manage.  My prescription states to take one in the morning and one in the evening before bed. My dosage is .25mg. After reading some of the postings, I was concerned.  The stress factors in my life have not changed.

vhill - Xanax, like all the other benzodiazepines, has some risk for impairing memory. Just how much risk is likely to be a function of dosage and frequency of use, use of alcohol and other sedating drugs and medications, your age, and general physical health. If the Xanax is really helpful and you have never gotten any benefit from other medications or treatments then finding some strategies to help you compensate may be the answer. This may be an acceptable approach given the very small dose that you are taking. If you have not tried cognitive/behavioral approaches then you may want to give those a try since memory impairment is not a side effect. Find a therapist experienced at working with difficult to treat anxiety.

I have been taking a generic form of Xanax and I have put on a lot of weight.  My dosage is l mg.  I don't think this is enough.

I have been taking xanax for years, and yes you can have memory loss. I have found myself puting important paper work and not remembering or having conversations with people and not remembering that either. I have to take xanax or my anxiety gets out of control. Just be careful and take aas prescribed.
