vhill - Xanax, like all the other benzodiazepines, has some risk for impairing memory. Just how much risk is likely to be a function of dosage and frequency of use, use of alcohol and other sedating drugs and medications, your age, and general physical health. If the Xanax is really helpful and you have never gotten any benefit from other medications or treatments then finding some strategies to help you compensate may be the answer. This may be an acceptable approach given the very small dose that you are taking. If you have not tried cognitive/behavioral approaches then you may want to give those a try since memory impairment is not a side effect.
