Angie - Both are members of the benzodiazepine family. Lorazepam is more potent (i.e. 1mg of Lorazepam is roughly equivalent to 10mg of Valium) and is considered to be an intermediate acting benzodiazepine. Valium is a long acting benzodiazepine. Both are very effective for anxiety and have significant addictive potential.
