Q: I'm currently bouncing between Xanax & Klonopin. I have heard of Ativan. Has anyone been on Xanax or Klonopin & switched to Ativan & if so, did it help with your anxiety and/or panic attacks?

I have horrible, almost to the point of debilitating, anxiety & panic attacks. It has almost brought me to the point where I don't leave my house. I'm on 1mg Klonopin twice a day but honestly I feel a little calmer but not to the point I can live an everyday normal life. The Xanax help great but they don't last long. Every script my Dr writes me is gone n a week or less because if I don't take over what I've been prescribed I wont b able to function @ work, if I can go @ all.

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

It is impossible to say if Ativan would work well for you. Everyone reacts to medication differently and what works for one person may not work for another, and vice versa. Unfortunately, it is often a matter of trial and error to find the right medication and the right dose to help you.

You may want to keep a daily log and include information such as:

What medication you took, how much and what time you took it

What you ate and drank

Description of your anxiety symptoms and a rating of them (for example, on a scale of 1-10)

What is going on in your life

This information can be very helpful to your doctor to help determine if you should adjust your medication dosage or try a different medication. Please remember, that these medications should not be stopped or you should not take more than prescribed without first consulting with your doctor.

You can also try non-medication approaches to anxiety, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been found effective in treating anxiety.
