I have been tested for lupus because of the butterfly pattern on my face. It's a red flakey rash. I wash my face and scrub lose the dry skin and attempt to cover it with concealer and make up when I do venture out. But since it continues to flake, all the makeup comes off with the flakes. I saw a dermatoligist and she didn't know what it was. It's around some scars on my face and now it has started at my hairline on the side. I feel guilty because I have worked many years in the sun and wonder if it some kind of sun damage that only wants to show it's effects now that I'm 45. I sure wish I knew what to do about it? Can anyone help me?

hi...i'm daniel jester.
i started getting this around 31 and i am now 37. it started with redness around my lipline. it varies from clammy to flaky and when i break the flakes it has the property of a burn...but always red...mildly soar and itchy. scubbing it will knock it down but it always comes back. and it gets particularly bad when i grow facial hair. i learned to never skip a day shaving. it whas progressed to a spot on my chin that breaks open and weeps... and the right cheek, as well as the beard cleft and inner eyebrows.
i used ketoconozole for 2 weeks and that knocked it down for a month, but it still eventually came back. try staying away from cheese, yeast, soda, bottled tea , and chocolate. all these foods tend to negatively affect the skin in general but in ous case it is a double problem. i would like to know if you ever were given a diagnosis on what it is. i am sure you have contomplated that if it were your back or your feet,,,it wouldn't be as bad as the fact that we cant hide it on our face.
