I tried ativan, klonipan, and tranzene no one in my area carries that.  So now I am forced to be on xanax.  He gave me 2mq zr xanax 30qty.  It has been several days since taking one daily and I feel  calmerand less stressed through out the day but I am still getting panic attacks thru the day (1 to 3).   It went down by one less a day.  First of all I thought if you were feeling less stressed and calmer, those things are what cause a panic attack.  I would like to know what you think can be done as far as diagnosing the right medication combination.  I don't know whether I need the 2mg xr xanax and regular anxiety too for when the panic attacks take thru the day or try 3mg xr but  Iwould be scared that the attacks will still come or should I ask for valium either 15 or 20 mg four times a day.  Please get back to me.  One more thing I did call the pharmacy where I got the 2mg xr xanax 30 qty and they suggested when a panic attack comes on break a 2mg. xr in half but if thats the only solution I will run out quite early.  Please help very confused.  my e-mail address is janinesavelli@yahoo.com      Thank you so much for your time and consideration in this matter.                                                                                    Janine Savelli

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to give you medical advice.

Each person reacts differently to medication, there is no "best" medication for anxiety, it depends on what works for you. Sometimes, it is a matter of trial and error to find the medication and the dosage that works best for you. It is important to keep a journal, noting what medication and how much you are taking, what you are eating, your activities and your moods. This can help you and your doctor look for patterns and triggers for your anxiety.

While medication helps, it is not a cure for anxiety. It is just one part of treatment. Therapy, particuarly cognitive behavioral therapy, has been shown to be as effective as medication in treating anxiety.

In addition, working with a therapist to find strategies, such as deep breathing is also helpful.
