Q: can stress/anxiety cause your hands and fingers to swell?

can anxiety cause your hands or fingers to swell? im really stressed out. Im a single mother with two children and Im currently unemployeed. for the past three to four months I wake up to find my left hand painfully swollen. It feels like pins and needles. At random times during the day I get intense chest pain (on the left side above/on the breast). The pain is sharp and stabbing. It doulbles me over and sometimes makes me fall to my knees in pain. After this happens my entire body becomes tense, I sweat and my muscles throb. The past month my left hand stays swollen and numb all day and intensifies during the night. I was on prozac 20mg once a day (for the entire month of january, when I lost my job I no longer had health insurance and couldn't afford the medicine or the doctor visits). I feel consumed with anger. I DON'T want to hurt anybody including myself, but I want to feel better. I want to live a normal happy life again.

Did you stop cold turkey or something, casue that could cause bad sideeffects, you may wanna taper off what ur on and consult a doctor to help your problem to get you in a different direction

yes i did stop cold turkey. I have been taking the prozac again for about two weeks but the symptoms are still there. this is the 4th or 5th medication I have taken for anxiety since i was 15 years old.

My dear...See a cardiologist immediately!  All signs are telltale of a heart attach. I watched my boyfriend experience the same exact symptoms frequently. Early one a.m. the symptoms that you have describedbegan to occur. I NEVER considered heart attach, until, he told me that his hands/fingers were numb. I rushed him to the ER and we were medivacced to another facility to end up with a stint in one artery. The doctors say that had we not appeared at the ER my boyfriend, would not be alive to tell the story. BTW, not sure of your age, but he is 34! Good luck and be safe!
