Q: Do I have anxiety, bipolar, panic attacks? I cant figure it out

Hi, I have had depression/anxiety for a few years now. So I think. My past doctors just keep prescribing me anti-depressants and they just seem to make things worse for me. I have had suicidal thoughts and have been to the loony bin. As of now I am not on any meds, because I dont really know what exactly I have. I have been seeing a therapist and it seems he still cant figure me out. I feel restless and tired, but cannot get to sleep. I am constantly worried about everything all the time. I have outbursts sometimes, and cant control them. I just need some advise so I can go my doctor and tell them what I think may be wrong with me. Thank you!

Thank you for your question and welcome to AnxietyConnection.com.

I am not a medical professional and would not be able to provide you with medical advice or a diagnosis. Your doctor should be able to work with you to determine an accurate diagnosis. If you are not satisfied with the progress you are making with your doctor, you are able to seek a second opinion. If you have insurance, contact your insurance company and ask how to go about requesting the second opinion to make sure it is covered by your insurance.

Doctors have a habit of just writing scripts and getting you out the door. It's hard to find a good one who will take time to really listen. For my anxiety and depression I had to go through quite afew different meds to find the right one.  Unfortunetly it takes at least 3 months to get the full benefit and to work out if it's doing what you need it to do. Also I found that even the time of day I take my meds makes a difference. Consistancy is the key , never forget to take them and take them at the same time each day. keep some in ur wallet incase your not home. Otherwise there are stacks of alternate things that help, diet, excercise, meditation etc but I found I couldnt stick to any of it without the help of meds first.  Medication alone is rarely enough though, it's important to try whatever you can and combine what works best for you. Also, knowlage is power, if you research your condition and whatever you are taking, it can make much more sense and give an outside perspective and make any possible side effects less scary.
