I HAVE TAKEN CLOMIPRAMINE FOR 12 YEARS AND ITS WORKED WELL WITH MY OCD AND DEPRESSION. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS ONCE YOU HAVE OCD DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE IT TO SOME DEGREE?. WILL I NEED THIS MEDICATION FOR LIFE?. I DO FEEL BETTER BUT STILL HAVE LITTLE CONFIDENCE. ALSO IVE BEEN PRESCRIBED QUETIAPINE SINCE 2006 DUE TO  A BEREAVEMENT[mother] BUT I DIDNT REALLY KNOW IT WAS A ANTI-PSYCHOTIC UNTIL A WHILE AFTER. MY AGE IS 35.

Hi PRR,

It's difficult to tell whether or not you will have OCD always. I did some reading and there is a very good overview here on Health Central about OCD. What it is, what causes it and expected duration and treatment. You can read the whole section here. In this section, it says that it can take years to diagnose OCD and treatment is a combination of psychotheraphy and medication.

If you are feeling better that is wonderful, but remember not to discontinue any medicine or treatments without first clearing it with your doctor. Information from online sites like Health Central is great to help you ask all the right questions, but it can not take the place of your doctor's solid medical advice and care.

Take care and stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing!
