A study published in a recent issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry has found that people who have bipolar disorder are more than twice as likely to commit violent crimes as people who do not have the disorder. But the researchers also found that the majority of this increased risk is seen in people who also abuse drugs or alcohol. The study also found a higher risk of violent crimes in the siblings of patients with bipolar disorder.
