Question of the Week: How Do You Know if Your Child has Anxiety or is Just Nervous?

By Eileen Bailey Health Expert

This week, a mother wrote with a question about her 7 year old daughter that seems overly anxious.

Children go through stages of nervousness and fears, such as being afraid of the dark, but often seem to move through these as they grow up.

My question this week is:

How would you differentiate the difference between childhood fears and an anxiety disorder? What behaviors would make you seek additional help or medical care?
