Hypnosis

(Page 2)

Make a positive change

Another point Anmarie made clear to me is that hypnosis doesn’t make you do something you don’t want to do.  (I know people who are afraid of trying this therapy for this reason.) She says, “There is no reason to be afraid. Hypnosis creates a heightened state of awareness. In this more focused, clear space you can re-frame or change the way your subconscious responds to an old habit or feeling.”

Real life experience

All of us have habits we want to overcome. As I spoke with Anmarie, I asked her what habit she personally was able to overcome through hypnosis. She asked me to recall how much she enjoyed coffee. I thought back to the last time we were together.  I remembered that we'd stopped for coffee on the way home from her picking me up from the airport. Over the years we'd shared a mutual admiration for the pleasures, aroma, taste and enjoyment of a well-made cup of coffee. She then went on to tell me how she felt she was drinking too much coffee, and had used her hypnotic skills to stop. She said she suggested to herself through hypnosis that coffee tasted like mud; thick, gritty, dirt that would make her gag. So instead of loving the idea of a gorgeous cup, just the thought sounded utterly disgusting! For the past five months she has not taken a sip of java. Wow!
