Self-consciousness may prevent obese from getting fit

Self-consciousness, a fear of falling, and feeling too fat to exercise may prevent some obese women from working out, a new study has found. Researchers studied 278 women who enrolled in a physical activity encouragement study, and found that these types of mental barriers predicted how likely the women were to exercise in the upcoming year. Experts say the key may be in developing programs to help obese women overcome these mental blocks by putting them in an environment that helps them feel more comfortable and less self-conscious.
