Anxiety, health problems linger for 9/11 survivors

According to a new study, people who were directly exposed to the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 continued to report new symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) up to six years after the event. More people were reporting PTSD symptoms in 2006-2007 than in 2003-2004, researchers found, and they were more than four times more likely to experience the anxiety disorder than people who did not witness the attacks. Investigators did find, however, that asthma rates in these survivors had declined to normal rates by 2007, after these rates went up in the months after the attack.  Read full story >
