Heart Disease, Anxiety a Bad Combination: Study

A study of more than 1,000 people in Holland has found that anxiety disorders appear to increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and death in people who have heart disease. In fact, the researchers found that generalized anxiety disorder was linked to a 74 percent increased risk of cardiovascular events in the study's patients. The scientists say increased levels of "fight or flight" hormones or a greater tendency for anxious patients to seek medical care for heart problems may explain the study's link between anxiety and heart disease.
