I just spent the day being poked and prodded and tested and sent all over a huge medical building. I was referred by my pulmonologist to an asthma specialist some distance away from my home. Although inconvenient, I'm really grateful that my pulmonologist is being so thorough. this asthma doctor is really well thought of in his field and he reconfirmed that I have it. He said I was sent there so that he can try to help me control my dry hacking cough better. He seems pretty sharp so I have high hopes.

I dreaded going through all the tests again but it wasn't too bad. If I can achieve better control of my asthma it will be worth it.

Hi, might I add ask  what  tests they put you through? In the beginning (10 yrs ago) I had a pulmonary test and they tested for oxygen level in my blood, by that they concluded (they guessed) I must have asthma. I am not happy at all with the way I am being treated, it's like they don't really believe I have a problem. I need to see someone new, but don't know what kind to go to.. any advice. How long have you had this problem?

Thanks and hope you're feeling better.

I have only been diagnosed for about a year. My pulmonologist wasn't happy with the coughing fits so he sent me to this asthma specialist for another perspective. they checked my blood gas, had me walk for about 6 minutes while hooked up to some sort of monitor and gave me a pulmonary function test. After that I was prescreened by one doctor and then was seen by the asthma specialist at the lung center. Following that I was sent to the lab for more blood tests. It made for a busy day. the upshot is that they confirmed that I had asthma. I was given an action plan, 2 more prescriptions and was advised to check with my PCP about changing my blood pressure meds. I did this and my PCP changed my BP med from altace to avapro. I return to my PCP in two weeks to see how the new med is working out. Busy, busy. Oh well, maybe this will work out. the heat wave is also expected to break this weekend so that should also help. I hope you feel better.
