I had to learn about this the hard way.  My allergist told me not to even VISIT anyone who had a cat.  My  husband wasn't thinking and took me to a co-workers house where I had a serious attack due to their cat.  My advice is if you have asthma avoid cats like the plague as you can sensitize and get worse and worse like I did.

I'm a cat allergy sufferer too--which is terribly annoying, because I love cats (we used to have a couple) and now find that I have to resist petting or even getting close. Even some dogs set me off.
