Asthma returning?

By Asthmatic Adult Friday, February 09, 2007

I used to suffer from mild asthma when I was a child, but then my symptoms went away for over 10 years. Lately I have noticed my symptoms start to reappear, and I am concerned that my asthma may be returning. Is it possible for asthma to lie dormant and then recur so many years later?

Unfortunately asthma can return after a lengthy period of time. I can confirm this due to personal experience. My asthma pretty much dissappeared for 4-5 years. The reason why was a combination of good diet and running 6 miles twice weekly, really pushing myself. Slowly slowly my asthma dissappeared but now as I edge towards forty and my knees are not what they  use to be my asthma has returned.

My fitness is still pretty good so Im not a 100% sure why it has returned. It could be due colds and seasonal illnesses. It is not the same as before when I was a child or in my late twenties but has cut down my lung capacity I would guess at least by 15-20%.

Try swimming ( this is a real good exercise for asthmatics) or running on the treadmill and building up your lung strength, also adjust your diet. This is what I will try to do!

Good luck!
