When I was a kid and my asthma struck I'd often open my window, set my elbows on the window sill, my face up to the screen, and inhale the cool, fresh air. This seemed to give me some relief in my efforts to gain control of my breathing.

Mom used to say people with diseases live longer. Perhaps she said it to allay my fears, yet I think she really believed it.
Now that I'm the same age as my mom was back them, I think I agree with her. I think people with certain diseases -- like asthma -- can certainly live longer than healthy people.
