11 Types of Asthmatics -- Which One Are You?

By Rick Frea, Health Pro Monday, September 22, 2008
As your humble RT and fellow asthmatic, I have created a list of all the different types of asthmatics. Trust me, I have met hundreds of asthmatics, even lived with a bunch of asthmatics once.   See if you can spot yourself or someone you know in one or more of the following asthma types. &nb...

Your list is great. I can identify myself in several of your categories.

I am one of your macho male Martyrs, who tries to avoid the ER at all costs because of the fear that I'm just being panicky. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 58 and 2 years later I'm still having problems.

I ALMOST qualify for your Gallant category because I do see a Pulm and I religiously take my meds.(Symbicort,ZyfloCR,Protonix,Zyrtec,Albuterol and Pred as needed) but unfortunately I have wound up in the ER too many times. This, despite my Martyr tendencies. (You're right. My wie foces me to go during severe flares).

So I guess I fall into the Hardluck category as well. What puts me in this category is my sensitivity to irritants and to temperature extremes. My medications have greatly reduced my sensitivity but not eliminated it.

From a Hardluck, Martyr,

Thanks for the list.

Tom

thp636:  I'm glad you wrote this reply because it helps me lead into one of my future posts.  I think it is normal to see yourself in more than one category here.  However, the goal -- I think -- is to at least STRIVE to be a gallant asthmatic.

You bring up a good point:  Is it really possible to be a true gallant?
