Can emotional stress exacerbate asthma?

In this entry, I would like to discuss the connection between stress, stressful life events, and their effect on asthma control. While the connection is still being worked out, there is evidence not only from clinical experience, but in research studies in humans and animals that stress can aggravate...

After my 2nd marriage in September of 2006, I began to suffer

light symptoms.  Some wheezing, tightness of the airways.

I was given Prednisone (3) times between November 2006 and March 2007.

I was hospitalized last March from the 10th - the 14th.

Since then, I have attacks every 3mths.

Most of the periods have been onsets as a result of persistant

emotional abuse from my current husband.

I have determined this based on the following.

While hospitalized, my heart rate was between 70-73,

when he came to visit me or call, it rose to nearly 90, requiring oxygen.

While home, if I sleep alone, I don't need my inhaler at night,

if I join him in the bedroom, I can't make it through the night.

I hate to say it, but he literally does make me sick.

I didn't know he was such a complaining, miserable man.

Counseling can not change a person, only reveal characteristics

that are hindering progress or change.

I have begun to seek homeopathic remedies.

Since taking steriods in 2006, I have gained 40lbs.

At 5'2", I was a steady weight of 130lbs.

I hope further studies can be conducted to address this realm of asthma

for other sufferers.

The irony is, for 13 years, I had (1) cat and never had an attack or need for an inhaler, til now!

after divorcing my wife of 20 yrs she continued to harass and stalk me sometimes entering my home while i was not home and once slashing a tire on my vehicle, the combined stress of being a single parent, juggling overtime at work, and dealing with court restaining orders landed me in the hospital for a week on oxygen (I had an O2 level of 83%) and was  treated for pneumonia and asthma (which I had anyway) after release from the hospital my condition worsened, I could'nt evev go up one flight of stairs although I had good pulmonary test results and clear x-ray/lung cat-scans and two doctors scratching their heads....on my own I started taking (1) 0.5mg xanax a day (for anxiety) and my condition improved IMMEDIATLY!
