Gerri D. Rivers, AE-C, Gerri Rivers moved to Albuquerque, N.M. along with her husband and two young children in 2001 due to her personal health complications precipitated by a severe case of latex induced asthma. Gerri was born at Seymour-Johnson AFB, N.C., educated K-12 in several states from the U.S. east coast to the west coast, and then matriculated at New Mexico State University for her first post-secondary experience. Her health care interest began when she was just a small child and living in California. Later, while living in Ohio and attending Worthington High School, from which she graduated in 1987, she cultivated her health care interest by volunteering at Grant Medical Center, Mt. Carmel and Riverside, all well-known, award winning hospitals in Columbus, Ohio. As she then pursued post-secondary educational studies, she either volunteered or was employed in various medically related capacities in Wisconsin, Iowa and New Mexico. She graduated, Summa cum Laude, from National American University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management. Gerri’s avocation and personal mission has been to gain information and knowledge about health related issues that would assist her own family and the families of others with effective actions to improve the quality of life for anyone faced with the possibility of debilitating conditions. The focus of her educational achievements and her various entrepreneurial experiences have highlighted her interest in service to others. In 1997, Gerri began providing asthma and latex allergy education to patients, families and health care professionals. In 2005, she passed a rigorous exam and received the Asthma Educator – Certified designation from the National Asthma Educator Certification Board. Gerri serves on the steering committee for the New Mexico Asthma Coalition, which created the Statewide Asthma Plan and as a member of the Community Asthma Board for the Albuquerque Public Schools Asthma Program. Gerri’s other interests involve participation in her local church and directing the education and extra-curricular activities of her two wonderful children.
