Romelia Rodriguez Walters, AE Co-founder, Asthma Allies Albuquerque, NM Romelia Rodriguez Walters is an Asthma Educator and co-founder of Asthma Allies. Ms. Rodriguez Walters has provided asthma, lung, and general health education for more than ten years. She has provided education to patients, providers, schools, and communities within Texas and New Mexico. Ms. Rodriguez Walters received a B.S. from the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas with a focus on biology and chemistry. While at UTBP, she worked as a Research Scientist and is a co-author of two published papers in a scientific journal. Ms. Rodriguez Walters has completed several hours of graduate studies in cell and molecular biology at West Texas A & M University in Canyon, Texas and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She has also participated in numerous local and national health specific conferences, symposia, and courses focusing on respiratory issues. Prior to moving to New Mexico, Ms. Rodriguez Walters worked as Director of Health and Safety Services for the American Red Cross Greater Amarillo Chapter. Once in New Mexico, she began work as the Director of Lung Health Programs for the American Lung Association of New Mexico. After her position was dissolved, Ms. Rodriguez Walters became the Chapter Administrator for the New Mexico Thoracic Society. She then received a grant from the New Mexico Department of Health to implement a component of the Statewide Asthma Plan. Shortly after this, Ms. Rodriguez Walters co-founded Asthma Allies, LLC, which is now a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Asthma Allies. Ms. Rodriguez Walters serves on the steering committee for the New Mexico Asthma Coalition, which created the Statewide Asthma Plan. She serves as a member of the Community Asthma Board for the Albuquerque Public Schools Asthma Program. Ms. Rodriguez Walters is a Disaster Volunteer for the National American Red Cross. She is also very active within her parish, Holy Ghost, as a catechist and Eucharist minister. Romelia is married and has three children.
