is advair safe to use during pregnancy?
Hi Sally,
Thank you for your question! Advair is classified as Pregnancy Category C by the FDA. This means that either (A) animal studies have shown the medication has a negative effect on the fetus, and there are no studies in humans; or (B) studies in women and animals are unavailable. Discuss this with your doctor. Ask if he or she has used this medication in pregnany women in the past, and whether the women have had any problems with it. Often, drugs are listed as category C because no studies have been performed. This doesn't mean the drug is harmful, it just means we haven't studied it under pre-defined conditions. Kathi MacNaughton, RN, wrote an article about controlling asthma during pregnancy that you may want to read. In it, she points out that the risk of using an allergy or asthma medication during pregnancy is safer than risking an asthma attack, which can lead to serious complications. I hope this helps!
Best of luck,
Casey
Hello. My daughter was born in 2005 with birth defects. I was taking Advair because I had severe asthma then. She has club foot- a bone deformity and muschle (connective tissue) problems. The docotrs cannot find a genetic cause.
Anyone else use Advair and have this happen. thank God for Advair (it has saved me beforer from a peak flow of nearly 0, but I am thinking this could have caused my child's deformity?)

I'm wondering what your dosage was? And how often you were taking it?
