Thursday, February 11, 2010 GROWING old with asthma asks

Q: I have a rash. Could asthma and a rash have anything to do with each other?

I had a rash for about seven years and it just went away about two years ago. I got asthma for the first time about three years ago.  Now the rash is back.  I have not changed anything in my life to make the rash leave or come back.  The rash comes up on my arms, lower legs and the sides of my hips.  It may stay anywhere from a few weeks to a month or more, than one day it will just leave for a while.  ONLY TO RETURN LATER. It itches like poison ivy.  It is red and under the skin until it itches, than it looks like welks(not blisters).  I have been to about eight doctors over this in the past years. No one could help.

Could this and Asthma have anything in common?

That's really a tough question to answer.  There are some atopic skin diseases that are related to asthma (such as excema), and they may be isolated to the same gene, yet to link asthma and a rash together would be speculating at this point.
