Q: What are the long-term dangers of habitually swallowing the residue Advair leaves in the mouth?

I have recently been diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and hyperparathyroidism and wonder if not rinsing my mouth after using Advair could be a contributing factor in my illnesses.  Regardless, I would like to know of any potential long-term effects of not rinsing.  I have thoughtlessly been doing this for years.

Great question.  Lord knows you are not the only Advair user not to rinse after using an inhaled corticosteroid.  I am guilty of that myself (or was anyway).  Now, if not rinsing could cause Barrett's Esophagus and hyperparathyroidism I cannot say, however that would be a great question for your physician.

To view potential side effects, check our this link.  As you note, side effects to Advair are rare if you follow each use with a good mouth rinse.
