Great question.  Asthma can often be a tricky disease in that what works best for one child may not work for another.  And finding the right combination of medicines for your child may take some time.  So it is of utmost importance that you continue to do your asthma research and continue to work with your child's pediatrician.   Atrovent used to be used regularly to treat asthma, although in recent years it has gone out of favor.  The reason is that studies show that there are other medicines studies show are better at helping children manage their asthma.  However, studies are ongoing, and some show that in some cases of difficult to manage asthma Atrovent may be beneficial (or at least it's worth a try).  Although still, per the asthma guidelines, it is not presently recommended as a top line treatment for asthma.  You can read the asthma guidelines by clicking here.  This might help you come up with some more ideas to take to your child's doctor)   While you continue to work with your child's physician to come up with the best treatment regime, you'll also want to make sure you continue to work on creating a good asthma environment at home.  Based on my own experience as a hardluck asthmatic as a child I wrote some tips to raising a child with asthma you can link to here.  I'm sure you know all these already, but it might be a good review.   That said, I have written several posts about Atrovent and you can check them out by clidking on the following links.  If I learn anything further I will be sure to let you know.   atrovent happy doc may be on to something The latest research on Atrovent   I hope this helps.
