Q: I am newly diagnosed and am taking QVAR

Since starting QVAR, 10 days ago,  I feel that my abdomen is bloated, (when I was first diagnosed with asthma)and am very uncomfortable. Also afraid of gaining weight from the steroid, my doctor told me I have a 60% chance of becoming diabetic, both of my parents have diabetes. I am afraid of becoming diabetic, and don't want to gain extra weight. Is there a different medication I can take that is not steroidal. I have had negative reactions to steroid treatment in the past, depression and an over all unhealthy feeling during treatment. Thank you in advance.  I am 52, female.
