Hi Anne,   Stress is one of many potential trigger factors of asthma. Sometimes there are other complicating issues too (hyperventilation, anxiety, panic disorder). Clearly, asthma symptoms may be brought on or worsened by stress.   First, normal lung function in between episodes should be confirmed. Spirometry is the best test to evaluate lung function. More questions need to be answered about your activity tolerance, sleep status (any night time chest symptoms?), and frequency of asthma symptoms.   Yes, you should be evaluated. A peak flow meter may help to monitor your lung function in future stressful situations. Medications as part of a maintenance/action plan should be discussed and written down for you. You should have a reliever inhaler available at all times.   Learn more about asthma and stress by clicking on this blue hyperlink.   Based on the severity of your last attack you should be evaluated by an asthma specialist. See if this can be arranged.   To Your Health,   J. Thompson, MD.
