Singulair (10 mg.) use and how long can it be use?

Hello, my name is Mary, and my son (17 years), has been using Singulair(10 mg.), for two years, He had an "open heart surgery" at age of 4. I am worry about any side effects, and I don't know how long can this medicine can be use. His pulmo.told me once, that he knew cases for up to 11years....
