What is scaring on the lungs due to asthma?

I have been having pain in my right side, lung area. My doctor told me to use Advil and if it did not help call and they would do a chest x-ray. I received results from doctor today saying I have scaring on the lungs due to asthma. I just had a chest x-ray in June and it was clear. This confuses me. I have been having a lot of breathing difficulty, but no cough and little wheezing, no fever. The doc seems to think it is not my asthma. So why is the scaring there???

Tammy,

This is a question that really needs to be directed to a doctor who has examined you and seen your x-rays. Asthma can cause changes in your lungs over time, called airway remodeling, but I don't know that I've heard this referred to as "scarring" of the lungs.

If you're not getting the answers you need from your doctor, you have the right to seek a second opinion. I would encourage you to do so. You have the right to understand what is happening with your body.

To your health,

Kathi
