Q: Terrible cough for three weeks with no end in sight. Any advice?

For the last three weeks, I've been plagued with a terrible cough. My albuterol inhaler is not helping very much and I've been given a prescription for advair. So far, I've not seen much improvement. On top of the unceasing cough, I've read that advair is particularly bad for the voice. I'm a singer and absolutely miserable. Vocal music is one of my few outlets and having my voice taken from me is pretty devastating to my psyche. Does anyone have any advice?

For me, I've found the most effective medication for cough due to asthma is Tilade.

Unfortunately, it's only available in countries other than the U.S., due to a manufacturing issue:  http://www.in-pharmatechnologist.com/Industry-Drivers/Inyx-drama-highlights-crucial-need-for-due-diligence-on-contractors.

Hence, I get mine here:  http://www.inhousepharmacy.biz/asthma-allergy/tilade.html

Another similar medication that you can obtain in the U.S. is cromolyn sodium inhalation solution (and it's generic, but you need a nebulizer), sold by Teva:  http://www.tevausa.com/default.aspx?brandName=Intal%C2%AE%20Inhalation%20Solution&pageId=76

I've found Tilade to be more effective, though.

I should add that I take an inhaled corticosteroid (QVAR) and albuterol as needed, along with Tilade.

To stop/prevent my coughing, though, Tilade is a godsend.
