What else can I do about my uncontrolled exercise-induced asthma?
I was diagnosed with asthma at 14 (now 18), and it has never really been "controlled". I've tried peventative medicines, like advair, fluradil, and, asthmanex; along with albuterol and I barely see effects. I usual wheeze within minutes of exercise, and use albuterol more then 6 times a week. My coach says hes had athletes with asthma before, but my weezing and attacks by far scares him the worst. I'm a very athletic person; I play rugby, volleyball and softball, and I can't let my asthma stop me, but I dont know what else to do/try?
I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time, but it sounds as though you're trying hard to not let asthma interfere with your life. Unfortunately, without getting your asthma under control, you are courting disaster.
It's important that you start to advocate for yourself with your healthcare team. You DON'T have to continue to suffer with asthma attacks every week. If you've never seen an asthma specialist, such as an allergist or pulmonologist, now is the time to do so. If you have seen one in the past, make an appointment to get your Asthma Action Plan re-evaluated.
I'm confident there will be a treatment plan that will help bring your asthma under control and keep it there!
To your health,
Kathi
