Believe it or not I just did a bunch of research on this and submitted a post. It should be published soon. In the meantime, I'll tell you that there is no documented evidence that inhaled corticosteroids cause weight gain. However, there have been some documented complaines, enough to make the company that makes many inhaled corticosteroids mark "possible weight gain" as a "possible" side effect. It's more of a we-don't-know-if-it's-true kind of thing.
However, studies show that if you rinse your mouth out really well after using your inhaled steroid, side effects are rare. I think this is true. And since Advair works so well to control asthma, you certainly don't want to quit using it. So rinse, eat well, exercise often, and you shouldn't have to worry about the weight gain thing.
Trust me, I say this as both a professional and as a long-time asthmatic who is chronically dependent on inhaled steroids for over 30 years. Good luck. Rick
I see the post I was referring to was already published. Here it is.

On purely anecdotal note, I lost weight after I started inhaled steroids because I could breathe well enough to exercise and cook healthy food instead of opting for convenience crap all the time because I didn't have the energy to cook.
