Q: Am i having another asthma attack?Should i have told my G'P how i felt?Is Asthma minor?

I had my 1st asthma attack yesterday and suffered alone through the night i thought i was having a heart attack at one stage i could'nt speak and got absolutley no sleep as i could'nt breath laying down but also had difficulty moving around,my feet where freezing but the rest of me felt hot and i had chest pains and my head and left arm were tingley i also saw little black dots n sometimes lil white flashes out of the corner of my eyes during the day and night,my wheezing was very loud and seemed to keep going even as i stopped breething between gasps(should i have told this to my G.P?i dont want him to think im being melodramatic like my family did when i phoned them for help.my boyfriend told me asthma is a minor illness and ive only had it for a year and a halfish so i don't want to cause a fuss and i feel like im just moaning if i tell people or doctors how i been feeling so i don't really, but last night frightened the hell out of me)I have been treated by the GP today and was put on a Nebulizer as soon as he saw me and told me i had exacerbation of asthma and35% best rate or something along those lines although it was nt untill i went to him i realsied i'd had one. my family were telling me it was just a bad chest infection and thats why i was wheezing because i was hyping myself up (and i thought the gp was going to give me something for a chest infection) but i don't feel like the prednisolone i was subscribed are working(i have been told to take 8 at the same time every day along with 1 Cetirizine,2 puffs of Seintide 4 times daily and Subulatmol when needed)....and i've started wheezing ,coughing, and struggling to breath again and my hands are now feeling cold, does this mean im going to have another asthma attack?

Asthma is never minor, and you should always be open and honest with your GP or physician.  There is so much great asthma wisdom and medicine available for asthmatics today, that every asthmatic should be able to go without symptoms most of the time, and life a relatively normal life.  If you are not open and honest with your physician, he (or she) will not be able to help you prevent future asthma attacks.

If you feel the symptoms you describe in this post, you should call your physician or GP right away.  If he (or she) thinks your being melodramatic, let him think that.  What's important is that you get your present situation resolved, and get on the road to becoming a Gallant Asthmatic.

I hope this helps.  Any further questions please ask.

Your boyfriend & family are very misinformed.  Uncontrolled or undertreated asthma can kill a person!  I don't want to scare you but you need to take your asthma seriously.  I would recommend you see an allergist asap.  In addition to the asthma meds some other things that can help are taking a magnesium supplement daily, drink lots of filtered water & when you're having flare ups get extra rest & sleep as much as possible.
