In response to:

Your boyfriend & family are very misinformed. Uncontrolled or undertreated asthma can kill a person! I don't want to scare you but you need to take your asthma seriously. I would recommend you see an allergist asap. In addition to the asthma meds some other things that can help are taking a magnesium supplement daily, drink lots of filtered water & when you're having flare ups get extra rest & sleep as much as possible.
