Monday, May 26, 2008 Stephanie asks

Q: it seem that my asthma (trouble getting a good deep breath) is present even when I first wake up .

I also have a stuffy nose all the time and cannot seem to ever get rid of it. Which makes it twice as frightening and frustrating just to breath. What can I do?

Hi Stephanie,

You don't provide much information here. It is NOT unusual, though, to have asthma and allergy symptoms when you first wake up, particularly if your triggers exist in your sleeping area, such as dust mites and/or pet dander.

The best way to control asthma and allergy symptoms is by avoiding contact with your known triggers and to take your prescribed asthma and allergy medicines regularly, as directed by your health care professional.

Best,

Kathi
