They can.

Many things can trigger asthma symptoms, and every asthmatic has different triggers.

Some common asthma triggers include pollen, pet dander, mold, dust mites, smoke, perfumes, sprays and cleaning chemicals.

Dr. James Thompson wrote a great post on the difference between allergens and irritants and how irritants may make you think you're having an allergic reaction, but you're not. Likewise, some chemicals may irritate your airways and trigger your asthma symptoms, but not necessarily trigger an allergic reaction.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns. Your doctor may be able to help you identify just what aggravates your symptoms and help you figure out how to avoid those triggers and still do everything you need to do each day.
