I've had asthma for at least 20 years, but haven't used an inhaler in 4 yrs. Should I use one daily
My only symptoms are a wheezing sound when the mold/pollen is high or I'm stirring up a lot of dust while housecleaning. Usually happens at night spring and fall. I feel great optherwise. I'm 47 years old.
Hi Karen Elizabeth,
Daily medications are usually prescribed when asthma symptoms are experienced at least twice a week, day or night. This is an indication that asthma is not controlled. So if this is the case for you, you should be on some kind of daily controller medication. Although, it sounds as though your symptoms are primarily due to seasonal change, which may be a result of an allergic reaction. Talk to your doctor about using some type of allergy medicine to combat the wheezing effect you experience during high mold/pollen count months. This alone may be enough to keep you from experiencing this asthma symptom. Also consider wearing a mask or handkerchief around your nose and mouth as you do your housecleaning. This may help to eliminate some of the exposure to the dust you stir around.

You should definitely use an inhaler daily that is prescribed to prevent an asthma attack. I use my inhaler twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before going to bed. If, however, I should be around something that triggers asthma, then I use it to control the wheezing that will occur. I have not had an asthma attack since I was a teenager and I am now 34 years old. You must be careful to not take your asthma seriously. An attack could happen at any time and having medication on hand can help you until you can get to a physician or to the emergency room. You have to remember that thousands of people lose their leives to this condition every year. So be safe and cautious when it comes to your health and life.
