Topics:Allergydry lips

I have been taking Adalat & Coversyl for years.  My doctor recently also prescribed Avamys Nasal Spray and Singulair tablets for allergy symptons.  They relieved the allergy symptoms, but my lips are EXTREMELY dry.  I've tried everything.............Chapstick; Lypsyl; Blistex; Vaseline; Vicks....................nothing seems to help.

Hi Sherry,

This might seem obvious, but one reason lips dry out is dehydration and many of us don't realize we are dehydrated. Try upping your daily water intake (experts recommend 8 to 10 full glasses of water per day) and see if that helps. Moistening the air in your home with a humidifier may also help, though you need to make sure you clean it regularly, as humidifiers can attract mold growth, which is an allergen for many people.

People with dry lips often lick or bite them in an effort to make them less uncomfortable. Try to avoid doing that.

My daughter swears by plain old vaseline, though some experts say to avoid petroleum products. Anyway, she applies it each night before bed. If you haven't tried that yet, you might see if it helps. Another approach is to rub a bit of olive oil on your lips a few times a day. It's all natural!

Good luck,

Kathi
