Hi there,   Theo-dur may still be used in some instances, but it's not usually the first treatment of choice. Experts these days recommend that asthma treatment begin with an inhaled steroid, and if that is not sufficient to control symptoms, then other meds may be added in. TheoDur (or theophylline) is an oral long-acting bronchodilator. On its own, it is probably not sufficient to treat most cases of asthma, but it might be a useful complement to the steroid in some circumstances.   Best, Kathi
