My only suggestion is to maybe get a second opinion.  Even the smartest & most wonderful doctors have been known to make mistakes.  Everything I have ever been told indicates that Intal, which is the brand name for the active ingredient, chromolyn sodium, is not a steroid.  I am not a doctor, & I would just hate for you to miss out on anything that might be helpful to you - so ask your doctor or another doctor or your pharmacist.   Also, while Intal is no longer available, chromolyn sodium is still available as ampules to use with a nebulizer.  From my reading on this site, it also seems that Intal is still available, paying out of pocket, from a website called panthermeds.com - which the writers have used & been happy with.   I wish you well, Donna
